Important CCDHH Closure Announcement:

It is to our great regret to announce that the Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing will be closing its doors and that our programs and services will be discontinued as of April 30, 2016.

This decision was not made lightly and we have been proud to serve our clients and the community for the past 31 years. CCDHH’s programs and services have promoted empowerment, equal access, education and independence for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Unfortunately, for the past few years, we have been experiencing decreasing client enrollment due to overlapping services for children and families and to the advent of technology that is affordable and easily accessible in assisting with communication for the deaf and hard of hearing. These trends have rendered our organization unsustainable.

The Board of Directors authorized a strategic study to determine the future direction CCDHH should undertake to support the needs of today’s client. Results of the study were presented and after much deliberation, the Board of Directors has made the decision to close CCDHH and to use the assets of the organization to create a fund administered by a local foundation to continue CCDHH’s mission. The foundation will oversee the request, grant, use of funds for programs and services that address the needs of the deaf and hard of hearing in Manatee and Sarasota Counties.

As Board Chair Patrick Jaehne states ,“CCDHH is proud that it has delivered services to its clients for 31 years and that it will leave a legacy that continues to assist the deaf and hard of hearing of the community.”
